Hadith 10338

Syedna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: We are more deserving of doubt than Ibrahim (peace be upon him), when he said: O my Lord! Show me how You give life to the dead. He (Allah) said: Do you not believe? Ibrahim said: Yes, of course, (I am asking) so that my heart may be at ease.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Imam Nawawi rahimahullah has established this chapter upon this hadith: "Chapter: The Increase of Tranquility of the Heart Due to the Manifestation of Evidences" (The explanation of the heart's tranquility increasing because of apparent evidences). Then Imam Nawawi rahimahullah, while commenting on this hadith, said: Regarding what is meant by 'doubt', there is a difference of opinion among the scholars. The best and most correct answer is the one given by Imam Abu Ibrahim Muzani, the student of Imam Shafi'i, and several other scholars. The meaning of their answer is: It is impossible for Ibrahim alayhis salam to have doubted regarding the resurrection of the dead. The Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam intended to say: If it were possible for the Prophets to have doubt, I would have been more deserving of doubt than Ibrahim alayhis salam. So you should know that I did not doubt, thus Ibrahim alayhis salam also did not doubt. (Sharh Muslim by Nawawi)
