عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ الشِّتَاءُ رَبِيعُ الْمُؤْمِنِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Winter is the spring for the believer.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … ‘Amir bin Mas‘ud radi Allahu anhu narrates that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: “Fasting in winter is the cold booty.” … The fasts of winter are a free gain. (Ibn Abi Shaybah: 2/181, Bayhaqi: 4/496, Sahihah: 1922) The meaning of the hadith is clear: the days are short and there is no concept of thirst, so in such circumstances, a Muslim should gather this booty.
