It is narrated from Sayyidina Ya'la (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: The sea is Hell itself. People said to Sayyidina Ya'la (may Allah be pleased with him): Do you not see that Allah Almighty has said: For the wrongdoers, We have prepared a fire whose canopies will enclose them. (: Surah Al-Kahf: 29) He said: No, by the One in whose hand is Ya'la's soul! I will never enter it until I am presented before Allah Almighty, and not a single drop of it can reach me until I meet Allah Almighty.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The meaning of declaring the sea as Hell is that sea travel is not free from great danger. When a problem arises in the middle of the sea, a person begins to consider himself completely helpless. Therefore, one should undertake sea travel only for Hajj or such important necessity; otherwise, one should not.
