Hadith 102

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Husayn bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Part of the excellence of a person's Islam is that he speaks little about that which does not concern him." And in another narration: "He should leave that which does not concern him."

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … This is a comprehensive hadith and a clear proof of the Prophet’s (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) being endowed with concise and comprehensive speech (jawami‘ al-kalim). Hafiz Ibn Hajar said: The scholars have regarded this hadith as one of great status and magnificence, and have counted it among those four Prophetic statements upon which the rulings of Islam are founded. Some have considered this hadith to be one third of Islam. (Fath al-Bari: 1/129)

This hadith is the refuge and resort for all Islamic rulings; it has a deep connection with every matter of a Muslim. Whenever one wishes to take an action or speak, he should reflect upon its consequences and benefits, lest he later feel regret.
