عَنْ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّهُ قَالَ حِينَ حَضَرَتْهُ الْوَفَاةُ قَدْ كُنْتُ كَتَمْتُ عَنْكُمْ شَيْئًا سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ لَوْ لَا أَنَّكُمْ تُذْنِبُونَ لَخَلَقَ اللَّهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى قَوْمًا يُذْنِبُونَ فَيَغْفِرُ لَهُمْ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the time of his death approached, he said: I used to conceal a hadith from you, which I myself heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If you do not commit sins, Allah Almighty will create people who will commit sins, and then Allah Almighty will forgive them.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The reason for concealing it was that perhaps people might rely upon Allah Ta’ala’s vast mercy and fall into acts of disobedience. Then, at the time of death, this hadith was narrated so that he would be free from the accusation of concealing knowledge.
