Syedna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever has wronged his brother in respect of his honor or wealth, let him seek his forgiveness today, before the day comes when he will be held accountable and there will be neither dinar nor dirham. (On that day, the matter will be settled in such a way that) if he (the oppressor) has good deeds, then his good deeds will be taken from him in proportion to his wrongdoing, and if he does not have good deeds, then the sins of the oppressed people will be cast upon him.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … It is understood from this that if the transgressions committed against others in this world are not forgiven by the victims themselves or compensated for in this world, then their matter will be extremely dangerous in the Hereafter. However, in our environment, there is no concern for the rights of people (huquq al-‘ibad), which is a cause of destruction. Here, a person is not regarded as a human being in and of himself; rather, kindness or mistreatment towards someone is determined by relationships and friendships, and smiles are exchanged accordingly. In reality, such behavior is not at all a distinguishing feature of humanity.
It is Islam alone that, in comparison to other religions, has given the greatest lesson in respect for humanity. This hadith is a clear and evident proof of this reality, that the wealthy and powerful who crush the poor and destitute masses under the millstone of oppression and tyranny should be warned that soon the time of their reckoning is coming. These oppressors need only await the end of the respite that has been granted to them.
