Sayyiduna Abu Burdah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from a Companion that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O people! Repent to Allah and seek forgiveness from Him, for indeed I repent to Allah and seek forgiveness from Him one hundred times each day. The narrator asked: Should this supplication be counted twice or once: "Allahumma inni astaghfiruka, Allahumma inni atubu ilayk" (O Allah! Indeed I seek Your forgiveness, indeed I turn to You in repentance)? He replied: This is counted as once.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Since the word "istighfar" (seeking forgiveness) occurs only once in this sentence, and likewise the word "tawbah" (repentance) also occurs only once, therefore, in order to complete the count of one hundred, the phrases "Allahumma inni astaghfiruka" (O Allah, I seek Your forgiveness) and "Allahumma inni atubu ilayk" (O Allah, I turn to You in repentance) must each be recited one hundred times.
