Hadith 10147

عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ كَسَعَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ رَجُلًا مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ فَقَالَ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ يَا لَلْأَنْصَارِ وَقَالَ الْمُهَاجِرِيُّ يَا لَلْمُهَاجِرِينَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ ((أَلَا مَا بَالُ دَعْوَى الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ دَعُوا الْكَسْعَةَ فَإِنَّهَا مُنْتِنَةٌ))
Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that a Muhajir man struck an Ansari man on his back with his hand or foot (and because of this a fight broke out). The Ansari called out: "O Ansar!" The Muhajir called out: "O Muhajir!" Upon hearing this, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Beware! What is the reason for calling out with the call of ignorance? Leave such mischiefs; they are blameworthy.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: ... "Muhajirun" (Emigrants) and "Ansar" (Helpers) are noble titles; these titles have been chosen by the Islamic Shari‘ah. However, when they were used in an improper context, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam disliked them.
