Hadith 10091

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by the dwellings near the stone, he said: Do not enter the dwellings of the people who wronged themselves, except in a state that you are weeping, lest you be afflicted by the same punishment that befell them. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) covered himself with his cloak, while he was on his mount.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Hijr is the valley of Thamud, which is located between Madinah and Shaam. Salih alayhis salam was sent to them as a messenger. Punishment descended upon them in this valley. When passing through such a place, a state of fear and awe should overcome a person. Otherwise, if someone passes through there and does not weep, taking a lesson from their condition, then he has adopted resemblance to their actions and his heart has become hardened. Thus, it is possible that he too may be subjected to a similar kind of punishment.
