It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jubair bin Mut’im (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man came to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! Which places are the worst? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: I do not know. Then Sayyiduna Jibreel (peace be upon him) came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: O Jibreel! Which places are the worst? He said: By myself, I do not know, but I will ask my Lord. Then he left and remained away as long as Allah willed, then he returned and said: O Muhammad! You had asked me which places are the worst, and I had replied that I do not know. Then I asked my Lord which places are the worst, and Allah Almighty said: The marketplaces.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah radi Allahu anhu that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: “The most beloved places to Allah are its mosques, and the most disliked places to Allah are its markets.” … The best places in the sight of Allah Almighty are the mosques, and the most disliked places are the markets. (Sahih Muslim: 671)
The market is the most disliked place in the sight of Allah Almighty. When passing judgment on the market, it was not based on any one honest and trustworthy merchant, but rather the entire environment of the market was taken into consideration.
