Qais said: We went to visit Sayyiduna Khabbab bin Al-Aratt to look after him, while he was building a wall. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: A Muslim is rewarded for everything he spends, except for the wealth that he spends on this earth. Sayyiduna Khabbab (may Allah be pleased with him) had been cauterized on seven spots on his stomach. He said: If the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had not forbidden us from praying for death, I would surely have prayed for it. Then he said: Some of our companions were such that they departed from this world, but the world could not diminish any of their reward, whereas after them, we have acquired so much wealth and possessions that we do not find any place for it except the earth.
