It is narrated from Ubaid Hazrami that when the time of death of Sayyiduna Abu Malik Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) approached, he said: O group of Ash'aris! Let my words reach those who are absent through those who are present. I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: The pleasure of this world is the bitterness of the Hereafter, and the bitterness of this world is the pleasure and sweetness of the Hereafter.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … In reality, in obedience to Allah Ta'ala and His Messenger sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, not only in the Hereafter but even in this world, one attains nothing but pleasure upon pleasure and sweetness upon sweetness. However, for common people, upon whom doing good deeds and abandoning evil feels burdensome, the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said this to make them understand: that which they, according to their own minds, consider bitter and difficult, in reality, that very thing will be a sign of their felicity. And that which seems most desirable and pleasing, but is harmful for the servant’s Hereafter—abandoning it may indeed be difficult, but this very difficulty becomes the cause of many mercies.
