عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ بُرَيْدَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّ أَحْسَابَ أَهْلِ الدُّنْيَا الَّذِينَ يَذْهَبُونَ إِلَيْهِ هَذَا الْمَالُ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Buraidah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Indeed, the lineage which the people of the world choose is wealth.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Everyone will have to acknowledge this reality that, at present, the foundation of praise, greatness, recognition, and acquaintance is wealth and property. In previous eras, Islam and lineage were considered the marks of distinction; people were not influenced by wealth. But now the system has completely changed—now it is the ascendancy of wealth and capital. This is the dignity, this is the prestige, this is the lineage, this is the nobility. As for poor relatives, even a needy brother is not allowed to come near.
