عَنْ مُطَرِّفِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الشِّخِّيرِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ رَجُلٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ كَانَ بِالْكُوفَةِ أَمِيرٌ قَالَ فَخَطَبَ يَوْمًا فَقَالَ إِنَّ فِي إِعْطَاءِ هَذَا الْمَالِ فِتْنَةً وَفِي إِمْسَاكِهِ فِتْنَةٌ وَبِذَلِكَ قَامَ بِهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي خُطْبَتِهِ حَتَّى فَرَغَ ثُمَّ نَزَلَ
Mutarrif bin Abdullah narrates from a companion, who was the governor of Kufa, that one day he delivered a sermon and said: Surely, there is a trial in giving this wealth and there is a trial in withholding it. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, delivered a sermon on this very subject, until he finished and descended.
