Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Dear readers! Praising a person to his face is strictly prohibited, desiring praise is also blameworthy, and showing off (riya) leads to destruction. So then, what is the glad tidings mentioned in this hadith? In reality, this praise is the effect of that love which Allah, the Exalted, inspires in the hearts of people for His special servant. Meanwhile, that person acts with sincerity, is unconcerned with people, and does not even tolerate hearing words of praise in his presence. Despite this, when he sees that serious-minded people mention him with goodness in their gatherings or to one another, he considers this as glad tidings for himself, but he strives to avoid showing off (riya), self-admiration (‘ujb), arrogance (takabbur), and ostentation (khud-numa’i).
