Narrated by Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: May Allah curse the one who changes the landmarks of the land; may Allah curse the one who sacrifices for other than Allah; may Allah curse the slave who claims someone other than his master as his owner; may Allah curse the one who misleads a blind person from the path; may Allah curse the one who commits bestiality; and may Allah curse the one who commits the act of the people of Lut.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The intended meaning is Allah Ta’ala’s curse, the wrath of God, being distanced from Allah Ta’ala’s goodness and mercy, and invoking supplication for His reproach and anger. In this hadith, the reprehensibility and vileness of slaughtering in the name of other than Allah, altering the landmarks of the land, causing a blind person to lose his way, reviling one’s parents, a slave exchanging his master, committing bestiality with an animal, and sodomy—that is, a man committing indecency with another man—are mentioned, such that a supplication of curse has been made against such unfortunate people.

By the landmarks of the land are meant the boundaries between the lands of two different owners, the signs of pathways, and milestones. This hadith is a manifest proof of the universality of Islam and its complete harmony with every era. Even though in ancient times, some signs were placed on highways for the correct guidance of travelers, nevertheless, in the present age, the indication of turns on paved roads, determination of distances, marking of ascents and descents, and the names of various settlements and cities along with arrows pointing towards them have greatly increased the importance of this blessed hadith. Another point is that, compared to ancient times, the value of land has increased greatly, thus boundary demarcation has become even more necessary; the Islamic Shari’ah had imposed such restrictions from the very beginning. Furthermore, altering milestones and the like, and setting a blind person on the wrong path, indicate the fact that Islam has given the greatest consideration to the respect of humanity. In the last sentence of the blessed hadith, the vileness of sodomy is mentioned; people living in many regions of the earth are afflicted with this unnatural and extremely filthy act. In any case, those who do so are accursed, and according to Islam, their punishment is death.
