It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Allah Almighty has forbidden for my Ummah wine, gambling, wine made from barley or wheat, backgammon or chess, and musical instruments. And Allah Almighty has given me an additional prayer in the form of Witr. Yazid, the narrator, said: By "Qinnin" is meant "Barbat," that is, a musical instrument.
