بَابُ فُضُولِ الْكَلامِ
Excessive speech
Hadith 1307
حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُعْتَمِرٌ، عَنْ لَيْثٍ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ: لاَ خَيْرَ فِي فُضُولِ الْكَلامِ.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: There is no good in idle talk.
Hadith 1308
حَدَّثَنَا مَطَرٌ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا الْبَرَاءُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ شَقِيقٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: ”شِرَارُ أُمَّتِي الثَّرْثَارُونَ، الْمُشَّدِّقُونَ، الْمُتَفَيْهِقُونَ، وَخِيَارُ أُمَّتِي أَحَاسِنُهُمْ أَخْلاقًا.“
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The worst and most wicked people of my Ummah are those who talk excessively, speak with wide open mouths, and speak with their mouths full. And the best people of my Ummah are those who have the best character."
