It is narrated from Kulthum bin Jabr (may Allah have mercy on him) that Sayyiduna Ibn Zubair (may Allah be pleased with them both) addressed us in a sermon and said: O people of Makkah! I have come to know about some people of the Quraysh who play a game called Nardashir, and it is played with the left hand. The command of Allah, the Exalted, is: "Indeed, wine and gambling are filthy, satanic deeds." [سورہ المائدہ: 90] And I swear by Allah, if a person is brought to me who has played with chess, I will pull out his "jounday" and skin him, and I will give his belongings to the one who brings him.

It is narrated from Ya'la bin Murrah (may Allah have mercy on him) that regarding the one who gambles with chess, I heard Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) say: That person is like one who eats the flesh of a pig, and whoever plays without gambling is like one who dips his hand in the blood of a pig, and whoever sits by and watches is like one who looks at the flesh of a pig.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with them), he said: Whoever plays with two signet rings while gambling is like one who eats the flesh of a pig, and whoever plays with them without gambling is like one who dips his hand in the blood of a pig.
