Hadith 1265
حَدَّثَنَا حَفْصُ بْنُ عُمَرَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا عَطَاءُ بْنُ السَّائِبِ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، فِي قَوْلِهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: ﴿وَمِنَ النَّاسِ مَنْ يَشْتَرِي لَهْوَ الْحَدِيثِ﴾ [لقمان: 6]، قَالَ: الْغِنَاءُ وَأَشْبَاهُهُ.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), that while interpreting the statement of Allah the Exalted: «وَمِنَ النَّاسِ مَنْ يَشْتَرِي لَهْوَ الْحَدِيثِ», he said: By this is meant singing, music, and things like it. [سورہ لقمان: 6]
Hadith 1266
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلاَمٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا الْفَزَارِيُّ، وَأَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، قَالاَ: أَخْبَرَنَا قِنَانُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ النَّهْمِيُّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْسَجَةَ، عَنِ الْبَرَاءِ بْنِ عَازِبٍ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ”أَفْشُوا السَّلاَمَ تَسْلَمُوا، وَالأَشَرَةُ شَرٌّ.“ قَالَ أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ: الأشَرَةُ: الْعَبَثُ.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Bara’ bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Spread the greeting of peace, you will remain safe; useless play and showing off are bad things.” Abu Mu’awiyah says: By “ashara” is meant useless play and amusement.
Hadith 1267
حَدَّثَنَا عِصَامٌ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا حَرِيزٌ، عَنْ سَلْمَانَ الأَلَهَانِيِّ، عَنْ فَضَالَةَ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ، وَكَانَ مَجْمَعًا مِنَ الْمُجَامِعِ، فَبَلَغَهُ أَنَّ أَقْوَامًا يَلْعَبُونَ بِالْكُوبَةِ، فَقَامَ غَضْبَانًا يَنْهَى عَنْهَا أَشَدَّ النَّهْيِ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: أَلاَ إِنَّ اللاَّعِبَ بِهَا لَيَأْكُلُ قَمْرَهَا كَآكِلِ لَحْمِ الْخِنْزِيرِ، وَمُتَوَضِّئٍ بِالدَّمِ. ¤ يَعْنِي بِالْكُوبَةِ: النَّرْدَ.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Fadala bin Ubaid (may Allah be pleased with him) that he was in a gathering when he received news that some people were playing with "Koh" (drums or chess). He became angry, stood up, and forbade it very strictly. Then he said: Beware! Whoever plays with it so that he may eat from its gambling, is like one who eats the flesh of a pig and performs ablution with its blood.
