بَابُ نُبَاحِ الْكَلْبِ وَنَهِيقِ الْحِمَارِ
Chapter: Barking of dogs and braying of donkeys
Hadith 1233
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي اللَّيْثُ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي خَالِدُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي هِلاَلٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: ”أَقِلُّوا الْخُرُوجَ بَعْدَ هُدُوءٍ، فَإِنَّ لِلَّهِ دَوَابَّ يَبُثُّهُنَّ، فَمَنْ سَمِعَ نُبَاحَ الْكَلْبِ، أَوْ نُهَاقَ حِمَارٍ، فَلْيَسْتَعِذْ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ، فَإِنَّهُمْ يَرَوْنَ مَا لا تَرَوْنَ.“
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "When the night becomes calm, reduce going out from your homes, because Allah Almighty has many creatures which He lets loose on the earth (at night). Whoever hears the barking of a dog or the braying of a donkey should seek refuge with Allah Almighty from the evil of the accursed Satan, because what they see, you do not see."
Hadith 1234
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: ”إِذَا سَمِعْتُمْ نُبَاحَ الْكِلاَبِ أَوْ نُهَاقَ الْحَمِيرِ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ، فَتَعَوَّذُوا بِاللَّهِ، فَإِنَّهُمْ يَرَوْنَ مَالاَ تَرَوْنَ، وَأَجِيفُوا الأَبْوَابَ، وَاذْكُرُوا اسْمَ اللهِ عَلَيْهَا، فَإِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ لاَ يَفْتَحُ بَابًا أُجِيفَ وَذُكِرَ اسْمُ اللهِ عَلَيْهِ، وَغَطُّوا الْجِرَارَ، وَأَوْكِئُوا الْقِرَبَ وَأَكْفِئُوا الآنِيَةَ.“
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you hear the barking of dogs and the braying of donkeys at night, seek refuge with Allah, for what they see, you do not see. Keep the doors closed and, when closing them, say 'Bismillah,' for the door which is closed with 'Bismillah,' Satan does not open it. Also, cover the water jars, tie the mouth of the water skins, and turn the vessels upside down."
Hadith 1235
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، وَعَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ، قَالاَ: حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي يَزِيدُ بْنُ الْهَادِ، عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ حُسَيْنٍ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ. قَالَ ابْنُ الْهَادِ: وَحَدَّثَنِي شُرَحْبِيلُ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: ”أَقِلُّوا الْخُرُوجَ بَعْدَ هُدُوءٍ، فَإِنَّ لِلَّهِ خَلْقًا يَبُثُّهُمْ، فَإِذَا سَمِعْتُمْ نُبَاحَ الْكِلاَبِ أَوْ نُهَاقَ الْحَمِيرِ، فَاسْتَعِيذُوا بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ.“
Umar bin Ali bin Husayn (may Allah have mercy on him) reports mursal from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that he heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: "After the night has settled, reduce going out, because there are many creatures of Allah that He lets loose (at night). If you hear the barking of dogs or the braying of donkeys, seek refuge with Allah from Satan."
