It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Do not leave fire burning in your houses when you go to sleep."

Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Indeed, fire is an enemy, so beware of it. Thus, Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to be especially careful about fire in his house, and would extinguish it before sleeping.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: In Madinah Tayyibah, one night a house, along with its inhabitants, was burned. This was mentioned to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), so he (peace be upon him) said: "This fire is your enemy, therefore when you go to sleep, extinguish it."
