بَابُ إِطْفَاءِ الْمِصْبَاحِ
Chapter: Extinguishing the lamp
Hadith 1221
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي مَالِكٌ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ الْمَكِّيِّ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: ”أَغْلِقُوا الأَبْوَابَ، وَأَوْكُوا السِّقَاءَ، وَأَكْفِئُوا الإِنَاءَ، وَخَمِّرُوا الإِنَاءَ، وَأَطْفِئُوا الْمِصْبَاحَ، فَإِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ لاَ يَفْتَحُ غَلَقًا، وَلاَ يَحُلُّ وِكَاءً، وَلاَ يَكْشِفُ إِنَاءً، وَإِنَّ الْفُوَيْسِقَةَ تُضْرِمُ عَلَى النَّاسِ بَيْتَهُمْ.“
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “(At night) close the doors, tie the mouths of the water-skins, turn the vessels upside down or cover the vessels, and extinguish the lamps, because the devil does not open a closed (door), nor untie a knot, nor uncover a covered vessel. And indeed, the mouse is mischievous; it burns people's houses.”
Hadith 1222
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ طَلْحَةَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَسْبَاطٌ، عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ: جَاءَتْ فَأْرَةٌ فَأَخَذَتْ تَجُرُّ الْفَتِيلَةَ، فَذَهَبَتِ الْجَارِيَةُ تَزْجُرُهَا، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ”دَعِيهَا“، فَجَاءَتْ بِهَا فَأَلْقَتْهَا عَلَى الْخُمْرَةِ الَّتِي كَانَ قَاعِدًا عَلَيْهَا، فَاحْتَرَقَ مِنْهَا مِثْلُ مَوْضِعِ دِرْهَمٍ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ”إِذَا نِمْتُمْ فَأَطْفِئُوا سُرُجَكُمْ، فَإِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ يَدُلُّ مِثْلَ هَذِهِ عَلَى مِثْلِ هَذَا فَتَحْرِقُكُمْ.“
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) that he said: A mouse came and started pulling the wick of the lamp. A girl went to stop it, but the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Leave it." So the mouse brought the wick and placed it on the mat on which the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was sitting. A spot the size of a dirham was burnt on that mat. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "When you go to sleep, extinguish your lamps, for Satan inspires such things, and they burn you."
Hadith 1223
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يُونُسَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي زِيَادٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي نُعْمٍ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ قَالَ: اسْتَيْقَظَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ، فَإِذَا فَأْرَةٌ قَدْ أَخَذَتِ الْفَتِيلَةَ، فَصَعِدَتْ بِهَا إِلَى السَّقْفِ لِتَحْرِقَ عَلَيْهِمُ الْبَيْتَ، فَلَعَنَهَا النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَحَلَّ قَتْلَهَا لِلْمُحْرِمِ.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: One night the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) woke up, and he suddenly saw a mouse taking a lamp and climbing onto the roof in order to set the house on fire. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) cursed it and declared its killing permissible even during the sacred months.
