It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) submitted: O Messenger of Allah! Teach me a supplication which I may recite in the morning and evening. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “You should recite: «اللَّهُمَّعَالِمَالْغَيْبِ ...... » O Allah! Knower of the unseen and the seen, Creator of the heavens and the earth, Lord and Master of everything. I bear witness that there is no deity except You. I seek refuge in You from the evil of my own self and from the evil of Satan and his shirk.” Recite this supplication in the morning, evening, and when you go to bed.”

It is narrated from Abu Rashid Jabarani (may Allah have mercy on him) that I presented myself in the service of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) and requested him to relate to me any hadith he had heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He handed me a scroll and said: This is the scroll which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) wrote and gave to me. I looked at it and it contained: Indeed, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): O Messenger of Allah! Teach me a supplication which I may recite morning and evening. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Abu Bakr! Recite: «اللَّهُمَّفَاطِرَالسَّمَاوَاتِ ...... » O Allah! Creator of the heavens and the earth, Knower of the unseen and the seen, Lord and Master of everything, I seek refuge in You from the evil of my own self, from the evil of Satan and from shirk, and from doing any wrong to my own soul or causing harm to any Muslim."
