Al-Adab al-Mufrad

It is narrated from Uryan bin Haysam (may Allah have mercy on him) that my father went to Syedna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) while I was still a boy. When he entered, Syedna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Welcome, welcome! A person sitting on the couch with him said: O Commander of the Believers! Who is this whom you are welcoming? He replied: This is the chief of the people of the East (Iraq), Haysam bin Aswad. I asked: Who is this person who asked? The people said: This is Abdullah bin Amr bin Aas. I asked him: O Abu Fulan! From where will the Dajjal emerge? He replied: I have not seen any people of a city who, more than these people of this city, leave those who are near and ask about those who are far. You are also among those from where the Dajjal will emerge. Then he said: He will emerge from the land of Iraq, which is full of trees and date palms.

It is narrated from Abu Al-Aliyah (may Allah have mercy on him), he says: I was sitting on a couch with Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both).

It is narrated from Abu Jamrah (may Allah have mercy on him) that I used to sit with Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), and he would seat me on his couch. Once he said: Stay with me until I allocate a portion for you from my wealth. So I stayed with him for two months.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), he sat on the throne with the governor of Basra, Hakam bin Abu Aqil Thaqafi, and said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would delay the (Zuhr) prayer in the heat, making it cooler (by praying it a bit later), and when it was cold, he would pray early.

Narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that I came to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and he was sitting on a bed or couch made of date-palm rope. Under his blessed head was a leather pillow stuffed with date-palm fibers. There was no cloth between his blessed body and the bed. During this, Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) entered and began to weep. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked him: “Umar! Why are you weeping?” He replied: O Messenger of Allah! If I did not know that your status with Allah is far greater than that of Caesar and Chosroes, I would not weep. How much worldly luxury they are living in, and you, O Messenger of Allah, are in the condition that I am seeing. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “O Umar! Are you not pleased that for them is the world and for us is the Hereafter?” I said: Why not, O Messenger of Allah! The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Then it is so.”

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Rifa’ah ‘Adawi (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I came to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) while he was delivering a sermon. I said: O Messenger of Allah! A stranger has come to you who asks about his religion. He does not know what his religion is. So the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) left the sermon and came to me. Then a chair was brought, and I think its legs were made of iron. (Humaid says: In my opinion, it was made of black wood, which he thought was iron.) So the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) sat on it. Then he began to teach me the commands that Allah had taught him. Then afterwards, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) completed his sermon.

It is narrated from Musa bin Dehqan (may Allah have mercy on him) that I saw Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) sitting on the bridal throne while he was wearing red clothes.

It is narrated from Imran bin Muslim (may Allah have mercy on him) that I saw Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) sitting on a couch while he had placed one leg over the other.
