بَابُ مَجَالِسِ الصُّعُدَاتِ
Chapter: Gatherings on elevations
Hadith 1149
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ بِلاَلٍ، عَنِ الْعَلاَءِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَهَى عَنِ الْمَجَالِسِ بِالصُّعُدَاتِ، فَقَالُوا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، لَيَشُقُّ عَلَيْنَا الْجُلُوسُ فِي بُيُوتِنَا؟ قَالَ: ”فَإِنْ جَلَسْتُمْ فَأَعْطُوا الْمَجَالِسَ حَقَّهَا“، قَالُوا: وَمَا حَقُّهَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ: ”إِدْلاَلُ السَّائِلِ، وَرَدُّ السَّلاَمِ، وَغَضُّ الأَبْصَارِ، وَالأَمْرُ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ، وَالنَّهْيُ عَنِ الْمُنْكَرِ.“
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade sitting on the “thresholds” in front of houses. So the people said: O Messenger of Allah! Staying inside the houses is difficult for us. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “If you have no other option, then fulfill the rights of these gatherings.” They asked: O Messenger of Allah! What are their rights? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Guiding the one who asks for directions, responding to greetings, lowering the gaze, enjoining good, and forbidding evil.”
Hadith 1150
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا الدَّرَاوَرْدِيُّ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: إِيَّاكُمْ وَالْجُلُوسَ فِي الطُّرُقَاتِ، قَالُوا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، مَا لَنَا بُدٌّ مِنْ مَجَالِسِنَا نَتَحَدَّثُ فِيهَا، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: أَمَّا إِذْ أَبَيْتُمْ، فَأَعْطُوا الطَّرِيقَ حَقَّهُ، قَالُوا: وَمَا حَقُّ الطَّرِيقِ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ: غَضُّ الْبَصَرِ، وَكَفُّ الأَذَى، وَالأَمْرُ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ، وَالنَّهْيُ عَنِ الْمُنْكَرِ.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Avoid sitting on the roads." They said: O Messenger of Allah! We have no alternative but to sit in these gatherings. We sit there and talk. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Alright, if you insist, then fulfill the rights of the road." They asked: O Messenger of Allah! What are the rights of the road? He (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Lowering the gaze, removing harmful things from the road, enjoining good, and forbidding evil."
