It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was wounded, I was among those who carried him to his house. He said to me: "My nephew! Go and see who has wounded me and who else has been wounded along with me." So I went and returned to find the house full. I disliked stepping over people's necks, and I was young, so I sat down. Whenever Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) sent someone for a task, he would order that he be informed of the matter. He was wrapped in cloth when Sayyiduna Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) came and said: "By Allah! If the Commander of the Believers prays, Allah will surely grant him life, and will surely grant elevation to this Ummah through him, until they will do such and such." He mentioned the hypocrites and named some and indicated about others. I said: "Shall I tell him what you said?" He said: "The very purpose of my telling you is that you convey this to him." So I gathered courage, stood up, and stepped over people's necks until I sat by the head of Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). I said: "You sent me for such and such task, and along with you, such and such thirteen men have been wounded, and Kulaib the butcher was also struck with a spear while he was performing ablution by the stone tub. And Ka'b is swearing by Allah and saying this." He said: "Call Ka'b to me." So he was called, and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "What do you say?" He said: "I say this." He said: "No, by Allah, I will not pray, but Umar is wretched if Allah does not forgive him."

It is narrated from Imam Sha'bi (may Allah have mercy on him) that a man came to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them). Other people were also present. He began to step over people's necks to move forward, so the people stopped him. Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Let this man come. He moved forward and sat near him and said: Tell me a hadith that you heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "A Muslim is the one from whose tongue and hand other Muslims are safe, and a Muhajir (emigrant) is the one who leaves what Allah has forbidden."
