بَابُ إِذَا سَلَّمَ عَلَى النَّصْرَانِيِّ وَلَمْ يَعْرِفْهُ
Chapter: Greeting a Christian unknowingly
Hadith 1115
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ الْفَرَّاءِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ قَالَ: مَرَّ ابْنُ عُمَرَ بِنَصْرَانيٍّ فَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِ، فَرَدَّ عَلَيْهِ، فَأُخْبِرَ أَنَّهُ نَصْرَانِيٌّ، فَلَمَّا عَلِمَ رَجَعَ إِلَيْهِ فَقَالَ: رُدَّ عَلَيَّ سَلامِي.
It is narrated from Abdur Rahman bin Muhammad, may Allah have mercy on him, that he said: Sayyiduna Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, passed by a Christian and greeted him with salam, and he replied. Later, it was told to him that he was a Christian. When he came to know this, he went to him and said: Return my salam to me.
