It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "There are three persons for whom Allah has taken responsibility and guarantee: if they remain alive, Allah will suffice for their needs (and Allah will protect them from every evil), and if they die, they will enter Paradise: Whoever enters his house saying «السلام», Allah the Exalted has taken responsibility for him; and whoever goes towards the mosque, his guarantee is also upon Allah; and whoever sets out in the path of Allah, Allah is also his guarantor."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: When you go to your family, say «السلام» to them. This is a blessed and pure gift from Allah. Then he said: In my opinion, according to the command of Allah, «وَإِذَاحُيِّيتُمْبِتَحِيَّةٍفَحَيُّوابِأَحْسَنَمِنْهَاأَوْرُدُّوهَا»[سورہ النساء: 86] "When you are greeted with a greeting, greet in return with what is better than it or (at least) return it in a like manner." it is obligatory to reply to the greeting.
