بَابُ مَنْ كَرِهَ تَسْلِيمَ الْخَاصَّةِ
Chapter: Disliking exclusive greeting
Hadith 1049
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ، عَنْ بَشِيرِ بْنِ سَلْمَانَ، عَنْ سَيَّارٍ أَبِي الْحَكَمِ، عَنْ طَارِقٍ قَالَ: كُنَّا عِنْدَ عَبْدِ اللهِ جُلُوسًا، فَجَاءَ آذِنُهُ فَقَالَ: قَدْ قَامَتِ الصَّلاَةُ، فَقَامَ وَقُمْنَا مَعَهُ، فَدَخَلْنَا الْمَسْجِدَ، فَرَأَى النَّاسَ رُكُوعًا فِي مُقَدَّمِ الْمَسْجِدِ، فَكَبَّرَ وَرَكَعَ، وَمَشَيْنَا وَفَعَلْنَا مِثْلَ مَا فَعَلَ، فَمَرَّ رَجُلٌ مُسْرِعٌ فَقَالَ: عَلَيْكُمُ السَّلاَمُ يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، فَقَالَ: صَدَقَ اللَّهُ، وَبَلَّغَ رَسُولُهُ، فَلَمَّا صَلَّيْنَا رَجَعَ، فَوَلَجَ عَلَى أَهْلِهِ، وَجَلَسْنَا فِي مَكَانِنَا نَنْتَظِرُهُ حَتَّى يَخْرُجَ، فَقَالَ بَعْضُنَا لِبَعْضٍ: أَيُّكُمْ يَسْأَلُهُ؟ قَالَ طَارِقٌ: أَنَا أَسْأَلُهُ، فَسَأَلَهُ، فَقَالَ: عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: ”بَيْنَ يَدَيِ السَّاعَةِ: تَسْلِيمُ الْخَاصَّةِ، وَفُشُوُّ التِّجَارَةِ حَتَّى تُعِينَ الْمَرْأَةُ زَوْجَهَا عَلَى التِّجَارَةِ، وَقَطْعُ الأَرْحَامِ، وَفُشُوُّ الْقَلَمِ، وَظُهُورُ الشَّهَادَةِ بِالزُّورِ، وَكِتْمَانُ شَهَادَةِ الْحَقِّ.“
It is narrated from Tariq bin Shihab (may Allah have mercy on him) that we were sitting with Sayyiduna Abdullah (bin Mas'ud) (may Allah be pleased with them) when an informant came and said that the prayer has been established. Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with them) stood up and we also stood up with him. When we entered the mosque, we saw that the people in the front part of the mosque were in bowing (ruku‘). Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them) said the takbir and went into ruku‘, and we also moved forward and did the same. Then (after finishing the prayer) a person quickly passed by and said: «السلام علیکم» O Abu Abdur Rahman. He replied: Allah has spoken the truth and His Messenger has conveyed (it) correctly. Then, after finishing the prayer, we returned and Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with them) went to his house. We sat in our place waiting for him until he came out. We said to each other: Who will ask him (why, instead of replying to the greeting, he said that Allah has spoken the truth and His Messenger has conveyed it)? Tariq said: I will ask, so he asked, and Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with them) said that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Near the Day of Judgment, greetings (salam) will be given only to specific people, trade will become widespread to the extent that a wife will assist her husband in business matters, ties of kinship will be severed, knowledge will spread, false testimony will become common, and true testimony will be concealed."
Hadith 1050
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي اللَّيْثُ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي يَزِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ، عَنْ أَبِي الْخَيْرِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، أَنَّ رَجُلاً سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: أَيُّ الإِسْلاَمِ خَيْرٌ؟ قَالَ: ”تُطْعِمُ الطَّعَامَ، وَتَقْرَأُ السَّلاَمَ عَلَى مَنْ عَرَفْتَ وَمَنْ لَمْ تَعْرِفْ.“
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a man asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): "What is the best form of Islam?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: "That you feed (others), and greet with salam both those you know and those you do not know."
