بَابُ قِيَامِ الرَّجُلِ لِلرَّجُلِ تَعْظِيمًا
Chapter: Standing for someone out of respect
Hadith 977
حَدَّثَنَا آدَمُ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، وَحَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا حَبِيبُ بْنُ الشَّهِيدِ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا مِجْلَزٍ يَقُولُ: إِنَّ مُعَاوِيَةَ خَرَجَ، وَعَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَامِرٍ وَعَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ قُعُودٌ، فَقَامَ ابْنُ عَامِرٍ، وَقَعَدَ ابْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ، وَكَانَ أَرْزَنَهُمَا، قَالَ مُعَاوِيَةُ: قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ”مَنْ سَرَّهُ أَنْ يَمْثُلَ لَهُ عِبَادُ اللهِ قِيَامًا، فَلْيَتَبَوَّأْ بَيْتًا مِنَ النَّارِ.“
It is narrated from Abu Majliz (may Allah have mercy on him) that when Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) came out, Abdullah bin Amir and Abdullah bin Zubair were sitting. Ibn Amir stood up when he saw him, but Ibn Zubair remained seated, and he was the more dignified of the two. Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) (seeing Ibn Amir standing) said that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever is pleased that people should stand up for him, let him prepare his abode in the Fire."
