Chapter: Striking brother's thigh without ill intent

3 hadith
Hadith 957
It is narrated from Abu Al-Aliyah Bara’ (may Allah have mercy on him) that Abdullah bin Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) passed by me, so I spread a mat for him and he sat on it. I asked him: Ibn Ziyad delays the prayer a lot, what do you say about this? He struck my thigh hard until a mark appeared on it. Then he said: I asked Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) the same thing you have asked me, and he struck my thigh just as I have struck yours. And he said: Perform the prayer at its proper time, then if you find the congregation with them, pray with them as well, and do not say: I have already prayed, so I will not pray.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) went with a group of the Companions to Ibn Sayyad along with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), until they found him in a state where he was playing with boys near the fort of Banu Maghalah. At that time, Ibn Sayyad was close to puberty. He realized (their presence) when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) patted him on the back, then said: “Do you bear witness that I am the Messenger of Allah?” He looked towards the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: I bear witness that you are the Messenger of the unlettered (people). Then he said: Do you also bear witness that I am the Messenger of Allah? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) pressed him firmly, then said: “I believe in Allah and His Messenger.” Then he asked Ibn Sayyad: “What do you see?” Ibn Sayyad said: Both the truthful and the liar come to me. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Your matter has been confused for you.” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) further said: “I have hidden something in my heart for you (tell me what it is).” He said: Dukhan (smoke). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Go away, you have not gone beyond your status.” Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) submitted: O Messenger of Allah! Do you permit me to strike his neck? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “If he is that one, i.e., the Dajjal, then you will not be able to overpower him, and if he is not, then there is no good for you in killing him.”

Salim (may Allah have mercy on him) says that he heard Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) say: After that, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) himself and Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka’b (may Allah be pleased with him) went one day to the garden in which Ibn Sayyad was. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) entered the orchard, he wanted to hear something from Ibn Sayyad before he saw him (to hear what he was murmuring), Ibn Sayyad was lying wrapped in a sheet on his bed and muttering. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was approaching, hiding behind the trunks of the date palms, when Ibn Sayyad’s mother saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and said to Ibn Sayyad: O Saf! (that was his name) Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is coming. So Ibn Sayyad became silent. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “If she had left him to his state, the matter would have become clear.”

Salim (may Allah have mercy on him) says that Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood among the people, praised Allah as He deserves, then mentioned the Dajjal and said: “I warn you about him, and every Prophet has warned his nation about him. Even Nuh (peace be upon him) warned his people about him. But I will tell you something about him which no Prophet told his nation: You should know that he is one-eyed, and Allah, the Exalted, is not one-eyed.”

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was in a state of major ritual impurity (janabah), he would pour three handfuls of water over his head. Hasan bin Muhammad ibn Hanafiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Abu Abdullah! My hair is much more than that (for three handfuls to suffice). The narrator says that Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) struck his hand on Hasan’s thigh and said: My nephew! The Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) hair was more and purer than yours.
