It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came to me and Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) at night and said: "Do you not pray (the Tahajjud) prayer?" I said: O Messenger of Allah! Our souls are only in Allah's control; when He wills, He wakes us up. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) went back and did not say anything to me. Then I heard him, as he was leaving, striking his thigh and reciting (this verse): «وَكَانَالْإِنْسَانُأَكْثَرَشَيْءٍجَدَلًا»[الکھف: 54] "And man is most of all given to dispute."

It is narrated from Abu Razin (may Allah have mercy on him) that I saw Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) striking his forehead with his hand, and he was saying: O people of Iraq! Do you think that I would lie against the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)? Would there be pleasure and comfort for you and sin upon me? I bear witness that I certainly heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "When the strap of any one of you (his shoe) breaks, he should not walk in the other (single) shoe until he has fixed it."
