Chapter: Saying "He Is a Sea" for a Man, Thing, or Horse
Hadith 879
حَدَّثَنَا آدَمُ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ يَقُولُ: كَانَ فَزَعٌ بِالْمَدِينَةِ، فَاسْتَعَارَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَرَسًا لأَبِي طَلْحَةَ، يُقَالُ لَهُ: الْمَنْدُوبُ، فَرَكِبَهُ، فَلَمَّا رَجَعَ قَالَ: ”مَا رَأَيْنَا مِنْ شَيْءٍ، وَإِنْ وَجَدْنَاهُ لَبَحْرًا.“
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik, may Allah be pleased with him, who says that one night the people of Madinah were overcome by fear and panic. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, borrowed the horse of Sayyiduna Abu Talhah, may Allah be pleased with him, which was called Mandub, and rode it forward. When he, peace and blessings be upon him, returned, he said: "We did not see anything, and we found this horse to be like a sea."
