Umar bin Salam (may Allah have mercy on him) says that Abdul Malik bin Marwan entrusted his son to Imam Shabi (may Allah have mercy on him) so that he could teach him manners, and also said: Teach him poetry so that he may become dignified and great, and feed him meat so that his heart may become strong, and keep cutting his hair so that his neck may become strong, and also make him sit with elders so that he may be able to debate with them.
