بَابُ مَنْ كَرِهَ الْغَالِبَ عَلَيْهِ الشِّعْرُ
Chapter: Disliking Excessive Poetry
Hadith 870
حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُوسَى، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا حَنْظَلَةُ، عَنْ سَالِمٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: ”لأَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ جَوْفُ أَحَدِكُمْ قَيْحًا خَيْرٌ لَهُ مِنْ أَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ شِعْرًا.“
Narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them), the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "For one of you to have his belly filled with pus is better for him than to have his belly filled with poetry."
Hadith 871
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، عَنْ يَزِيدَ النَّحْوِيِّ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ: ﴿وَالشُّعَرَاءُ يَتَّبِعُهُمُ الْغَاوُونَ﴾ [الشعراء: 224] إِلَى قَوْلِهِ: ﴿وَأَنَّهُمْ يَقُولُونَ مَا لاَ يَفْعَلُونَ﴾ [الشعراء: 226]، فَنَسَخَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ وَاسْتَثْنَى فَقَالَ: ﴿إِلاَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا﴾ إِلَى قَوْلِهِ: ﴿يَنْقَلِبُونَ﴾ [الشعراء: 227].
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the command of Allah Almighty: «وَالشُّعَرَاءُ يَتَّبِعُهُمُ الْغَاوُونَ أَلَمْ تَرَ أَنَّهُمْ فِي كُلِّ وَادٍ يَهِيمُونَ وَأَنَّهُمْ يَقُولُونَ مَا لَا يَفْعَلُونَ إِلَّا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ وَذَكَرُوا اللَّهَ كَثِيرًا» [الشعراء: 224-227] has been abrogated by Allah Almighty, and the believers have been exempted from it, and He said: "Except for those who believe (and do good deeds and remember Allah abundantly...) they are to return."
