It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), who reports from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: "Name yourselves after me, but do not take my kunyah. Indeed, I am Abu al-Qasim."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was in the market when a man called out: "O Abu al-Qasim!" The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, turned towards him, so the man said: "O Messenger of Allah! I was calling him." Then the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Name yourselves with my name, but do not take my kunya (patronymic)."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a son was born to one of the Ansari men among us, and he intended to name him Muhammad. In one narration, that Ansari says: I carried him on my shoulders and brought him to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). In Sulaiman’s narration, it is stated: A child was born to him, so he intended to name him Muhammad, whereupon the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Name him with my name, but do not use my kunyah (patronymic), for I have been made the Qasim (distributor), I distribute (wealth and religion) among you.” In Husayn’s narration, it is stated: “I have been sent as the Qasim, I distribute among you.”

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) that when a son was born to him, he brought him to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The Prophet (peace be upon him) named him Ibrahim, gave him tahneek with dates, and prayed for blessings for him. And he was the eldest son of Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him).
