It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Wahb Jushami (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Name yourselves after the names of the Prophets, and the most beloved names to Allah Almighty are Abdullah and Abdur-Rahman. The truest names are Harith and Hammam, and the worst names are Harb and Murrah."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that a son was born to one of us, so he named him Qasim. We said: We will neither call you Abu al-Qasim nor honor you with that title. This was mentioned to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), so he said: "Name your son Abdur-Rahman."
