بَابُ الْغِنَاءِ وَاللَّهْوِ
Chapter: Singing and Amusement
Hadith 784
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ قَالَ: خَرَجْتُ مَعَ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ إِلَى السُّوقِ، فَمَرَّ عَلَى جَارِيَةٍ صَغِيرَةٍ تُغَنِّي، فَقَالَ: إِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ لَوْ تَرَكَ أَحَدًا لَتَرَكَ هَذِهِ.
It is narrated from Abdullah bin Dinar (may Allah have mercy on him), he said: I went to the market with Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), and he passed by a little girl who was singing. He said: If Satan were to leave anyone (from misguidance), he would have left this girl.
Hadith 785
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلامٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ أَبُو عَمْرٍو الْبَصْرِيُّ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عَمْرًا مَوْلَى الْمُطَّلِبِ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ يَقُولُ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ”لَسْتُ مِنْ دَدٍ، وَلاَ الدَّدُ مِنِّي بِشَيْءٍ“، يَعْنِي: لَيْسَ الْبَاطِلُ مِنِّي بِشَيْءٍ.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "I am neither one of vain play, nor does vain play have any connection with me." That is: falsehood has nothing to do with me.
Hadith 786
حَدَّثَنَا حَفْصُ بْنُ عُمَرَ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا عَطَاءُ بْنُ السَّائِبِ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ: ﴿وَمِنَ النَّاسِ مَنْ يَشْتَرِي لَهْوَ الْحَدِيثِ﴾ [لقمان: 6]، قَالَ: الْغِنَاءُ وَأَشْبَاهُهُ.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that while explaining the blessed verse «وَمِنَ النَّاسِ مَنْ يَشْتَرِي لَهْوَ الْحَدِيثِ» [لقمان: 6], he said: This refers to singing, music, and similar things.
Hadith 787
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلاَمٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا الْفَزَارِيُّ، وَأَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، قَالاَ: أَخْبَرَنَا قِنَانُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ النَّهْمِيُّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْسَجَةَ، عَنِ الْبَرَاءِ بْنِ عَازِبٍ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ”أَفْشُوا السَّلاَمَ تَسْلَمُوا، وَالأشَرَةُ شَرٌّ“، قَالَ أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ: وَالأَشَرُ: الْعَبَثُ.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Bara’ bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Spread the greeting of peace, you will live in safety, and idle talk is evil.” Abu Mu’awiyah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: The meaning of “evil” is “futility.”
Hadith 788
حَدَّثَنَا عِصَامٌ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا حَرِيزٌ، عَنْ سَلْمَانَ بْنِ سُمَيْرٍ الأَلَهَانِيِّ، عَنْ فَضَالَةَ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ، وَكَانَ بِجَمْعٍ مِنَ الْمَجَامِعِ، فَبَلَغَهُ أَنَّ أَقْوَامًا يَلْعَبُونَ بِالْكُوبَةِ، فَقَامَ غَضْبَانَ يَنْهَى عَنْهَا أَشَدَّ النَّهْيِ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: أَلاَ إِنَّ اللاَّعِبَ بِهَا لَيَأْكُلُ ثَمَرَهَا، كَآكِلِ لَحْمِ الْخِنْزِيرِ، وَمُتَوَضِّئٍ بِالدَّمِ. يَعْنِي بِالْكُوبَةِ: النَّرْدَ.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Fadala bin Ubaid (may Allah be pleased with him) that he was in a gathering when he received news that some people were playing chess. He got up from there in great anger, strictly forbidding it, and then said: Beware! The one who plays chess so that he may earn from it is like one who eats the flesh of a pig, and like one who performs ablution with its blood.
