بَابُ لَا تَسُبُّوا الدَّهْرَ
Chapter: Do Not Curse Time
Hadith 769
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي مَالِكٌ، عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ، عَنِ الأَعْرَجِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: ”لَا يَقُولَنَّ أَحَدُكُمْ: يَا خَيْبَةَ الدَّهْرِ، فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ الدَّهْرُ.“
Narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "None of you should ever say: 'Woe to the time,' for Allah Himself is the Time."
Hadith 770
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا حَاتِمُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ يَحْيَى الأَنْصَارِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: ”لَا يَقُلْ أَحَدُكُمْ: يَا خَيْبَةَ الدَّهْرِ، قَالَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: أَنَا الدَّهْرُ، أُرْسِلُ اللَّيْلَ وَالنَّهَارَ، فَإِذَا شِئْتُ قَبَضْتُهُمَا. وَلاَ يَقُولَنَّ لِلْعِنَبِ: الْكَرْمَ، فَإِنَّ الْكَرْمَ الرَّجُلُ الْمُسْلِمُ.“
It is also narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), who reports from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) that he said: "None of you should say: 'Woe to time.' Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, says: 'I am Time. I send the night and the day, and when I wish, I will seize them.' And never call grapes 'karm,' for karm is a Muslim man."
