بَابُ إِذَا أَصْبَحَ بِفِنَائِهِ
Chapter: When One Wakes Up in His Courtyard
Hadith 744
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ ، عَنِ الْمِقْدَامِ أَبِي كَرِيمَةَ الشَّامِيّ ، قَالَ : قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : ”لَيْلَةُ الضَّيْفِ حَقٌّ وَاجِبٌ عَلَى كُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ ، فَمَنْ أَصْبَحَ بِفِنَائِهِ فَهُوَ دَيْنٌ عَلَيْهِ إِنْ شَاءَ ، فَإِنْ شَاءَ اقْتَضَاهُ ، وَإِنْ شَاءَ تَرَكَهُ.“
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Karima Miqdam Shami (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If a guest arrives at night, it is obligatory upon every Muslim to host him for that night. And if the guest stays until morning, then the hospitality for that time is a debt upon the householder; if the guest wishes, he may demand it, and if he wishes, he may forgo it."
