It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) that we were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). He (peace be upon him) came to two graves, the inhabitants of which were being punished. He (peace be upon him) said: "They are not being punished for a major sin. Yes, it is indeed a major sin (but they did not consider it major). One of them used to backbite people, and the other did not protect himself from urine." Then he (peace be upon him) asked for one or two fresh twigs, broke them, and ordered that each piece be planted on a grave. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Soon their punishment will be lightened as long as they remain fresh or do not dry out."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Qais (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Amr bin Al-Aas (may Allah be pleased with him) was passing by with some of his companions when they came across a dead mule, which had swollen due to being dead for a long time. He said: "By Allah, for any of you to eat this until he fills his stomach is better than eating the flesh of a Muslim."
