It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with them) that he said: A man says: O Allah! I seek refuge with You from being afflicted with a severe calamity. Then he remains silent. When making this supplication, he should also say: Except for a calamity that is a means of elevation in ranks, that is desirable.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to seek refuge from severe calamity, from falling into wretchedness, from the rejoicing of enemies, and from evil judgment.
