It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to supplicate in times of anxiety and distress as follows: «لَاإِلَهَإِلَّااللَّهُالْعَظِيمُالْحَلِيمُ،لَاإِلَهَإِلَّااللَّهُرَبُّالسَّمَاوَاتِوَالْأَرْضِ،رَبُّالْعَرْشِالْعَظِيمِ» "There is no true deity except Allah, the Magnificent, the Forbearing. There is no true deity except Allah, the Lord of the heavens and the earth, and the Lord of the Mighty Throne."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said to his father, Sayyiduna Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him): O my father! I hear you reciting this supplication every morning: "O Allah! Grant me well-being in my body. O Allah! Grant me well-being in my hearing. O Allah! Grant me well-being in my sight. There is no deity worthy of worship except You." You say these words three times in the morning and evening, and you say: "O Allah! I seek refuge in You from disbelief and poverty. O Allah! I seek refuge in You from the punishment of the grave. There is no deity worthy of worship except You." You also say these words three times in the morning and evening. He replied: Yes, my dear son! I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saying these words, and I like to follow the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). He further said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "The supplication of a person afflicted with anxiety is this: O Allah! I hope for Your mercy. Do not leave me to myself even for the blink of an eye, and set right all my affairs. There is no deity worthy of worship except You."
