It is narrated from Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) that I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: “Whoever recites this supplication three times every morning and evening: «بِسْمِاللهِالَّذِيلَايَضُرُّمَعَاسْمِهِشَيْءٌفِيالْأَرْضِوَلَافِيالسَّمَاءِوَهُوَالسَّمِيعُالْعَلِيمُ» ‘In the name of Allah, with whose name nothing in the earth or the sky can cause harm. He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.’ Nothing will harm him.” The narrator of the hadith (Aban) had paralysis in some parts of his body, so the person listening to the hadith began to look at him. Aban realized his questioning gaze and said: The hadith is exactly as I have narrated it to you, but I did not recite this supplication on the day I was afflicted with paralysis, so that Allah’s decree would be fulfilled.
