It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was more modest than a veiled virgin girl, and when he disliked something, we would recognize it from the expression on his face. Through another chain of narration, it is also narrated in a similar manner from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Uthman and Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with them both) that Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) sought permission to visit the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) while he (peace be upon him) was sitting on Sayyidah Aisha’s (may Allah be pleased with her) bed, covered with her sheet. The Prophet (peace be upon him) granted Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) permission in that very state. He fulfilled the purpose for which he had come and then left. Then Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) sought permission, and the Prophet (peace be upon him) granted him permission in the same state, so he too fulfilled his need and left. Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Then I sought permission to enter, so the Prophet (peace be upon him) sat up and said to Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), “Adjust your clothes.” He (Uthman) says: I fulfilled the task I had with him and then returned. He says that Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: O Messenger of Allah! The way you made arrangements for Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him), you did not do so for Sayyiduna Abu Bakr and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both)? The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “Indeed, Uthman is extremely modest and very shy, and I feared that if I permitted him to enter in that state, he would not be able to express his need to me properly.”

Narrated from Umm al-Mu’minin Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was lying down in my house, and his thigh or shin was uncovered. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) sought permission to enter, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) allowed him in that state. He came in and talked. Then Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) sought permission, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) allowed him in that state, and he also came in and talked. Then Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) sought permission, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sat up and adjusted his clothes. (Muhammad bin Harmalah said: I do not say that they all came on the same day.) So he also entered and talked. When he left, I said: O Messenger of Allah! Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) entered and you did not make any special effort nor paid much attention, then Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) entered and you did not show much warmth or special attention either. Then Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) entered, and you sat up and adjusted your clothes? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Should I not show modesty before a man before whom even the angels show modesty?”
