بَابُ التَّجَارِبِ
Chapter: Experiences
Hadith 564
حَدَّثَنَا فَرْوَةُ بْنُ أَبِي الْمَغْرَاءِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُسْهِرٍ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ: كُنْتُ جَالِسًا عِنْدَ مُعَاوِيَةَ، فَحَدَّثَ نَفْسَهُ، ثُمَّ انْتَبَهَ فَقَالَ: لاَ حِلْمَ إِلاَّ تَجْرِبَةٌ، يُعِيدُهَا ثَلاثًا.
It is narrated from Urwah (may Allah have mercy on him) that I was sitting with Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) when a thought crossed his mind, then he composed himself and said: Forbearance comes only through experience. He repeated this statement three times.
Hadith 565
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عُفَيْرٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَيُّوبَ، عَنِ ابْنِ زَحْرٍ، عَنْ أَبِي الْهَيْثَمِ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ قَالَ: لاَ حَلِيمَ إِلاَّ ذُو عَثْرَةٍ، وَلاَ حَكِيمَ إِلاَّ ذُو تَجْرِبَةٍ. حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْحَارِثِ ، عَنْ دَرَّاجٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي الْهَيْثَمِ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، مِثْلَهُ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: "Only the one who stumbles becomes forbearing, and only the one with experience becomes wise." In another chain, Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him) has also narrated this as a marfu' (attributed to the Prophet).
