Hadith 512
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Usama bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a child of the beloved daughter of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), Sayyida Zainab (may Allah be pleased with her), became severely ill. She sent a message to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) that my child (Ali) is at the throes of death. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to the messenger: "Go and tell her: Indeed, whatever Allah takes belongs to Him, and whatever He gives belongs to Him, and everything with Him has an appointed term. She should be patient and hope for reward." When the messenger conveyed this message to Sayyida Zainab, she sent the messenger again, saying that your daughter swears that you must come. So the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stood up with a group of companions, among whom was Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him). The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) took the child and held him to his chest, and the child's chest was rattling like a water-skin. Seeing this state, tears flowed from the eyes of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Sayyiduna Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "You are the Messenger of Allah, yet you weep?" The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) replied: "I am weeping due to mercy and compassion. Indeed, Allah only shows mercy to those of His servants who are merciful."
