It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Beware of oppression, for oppression will appear as darkness and gloom on the Day of Resurrection. And beware of miserliness, for it was miserliness that destroyed those before you and incited them to shed each other's blood and to make lawful what was unlawful."

It is narrated from Abu al-Duha (may Allah have mercy on him) that Masruq and Shatir bin Shakl (may Allah have mercy on them) gathered together in the mosque, and the circles of people in the mosque gathered around them. Masruq (may Allah have mercy on him) said: These people have gathered around us only to hear good and virtuous things from us, so you narrate from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) and I will confirm you, or I will narrate to them and you confirm me. Shatir bin Shakl (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Abu Aisha, you narrate. He (Masruq, may Allah have mercy on him) said: Did you hear from Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him)? He said: The eyes commit adultery, the hands commit adultery, and the feet also commit adultery, and the private part confirms it or denies it. He said: Yes, I have indeed heard this from him. Masruq (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Did you hear Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) say that regarding what is lawful and unlawful, and commands and prohibitions, there is no verse in the Noble Qur'an more comprehensive than this verse: «إِنَّاللَّهَيَأْمُرُبِالْعَدْلِوَالإِحْسَانِوَإِيتَاءِذِيالْقُرْبَى»[النحل: 90]? He said: Yes, I have heard this from Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him). Masruq (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Did you hear Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) say that there is no verse in the Qur'an greater than «وَمَنْيَتَّقِاللَّهَيَجْعَلْلَهُمَخْرَجًا»[الطلاق: 2] in opening the way to ease for those who act upon it? Shatir bin Shakl (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I have indeed heard this from him as well. Masruq (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Did you hear Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) say that there is no verse in the Qur'an greater than «يَاعِبَادِيَالَّذِينَأَسْرَفُواعَلَىأَنْفُسِهِمْلاَتَقْنَطُوامِنْرَحْمَةِاللهِ»[الزمر: 53] that teaches the servants to entrust (their affairs to Allah)? Shatir bin Shakl (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Yes, I have heard this from Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) relates from Allah the Blessed and Exalted, that Allah Almighty said: "O My servants! Verily, I have made oppression unlawful for Myself and have made it unlawful among you, so do not oppress one another. O My servants! You commit sins by day and by night, and I forgive all sins, and it does not concern Me, so seek forgiveness from Me, I will forgive you. O My servants! All of you are hungry except those whom I feed, so ask Me for food, I will feed you. O My servants! All of you are naked except those whom I clothe, so ask Me for clothing, I will clothe you. O My servants! If the first and the last of you, humans and jinn, were all as pious as the most pious among you, that would not increase My kingdom in the least; and if all of you were as wicked as the most wicked among you, that would not decrease My kingdom in the least, just as dipping a thread into the sea does not diminish the sea. O My servants! These are your deeds which I am keeping count of for you, so whoever finds good should praise Allah, and whoever finds otherwise should blame no one but himself." Whenever Abu Idris Khawlani (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated this hadith, he would sit on his knees out of respect for it.
