بَابُ مَنْ لَمْ يُوَاجِهِ النَّاسَ بِكَلامِهِ
Chapter: One Who Does Not Confront People With His Words
Hadith 436
حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا الأَعْمَشُ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُسْلِمٌ، عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ قَالَ: قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ: صَنَعَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ شَيْئًا، فَرَخَّصَ فِيهِ، فَتَنَزَّهَ عَنْهُ قَوْمٌ، فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَخَطَبَ، فَحَمِدَ اللَّهَ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: ”مَا بَالُ أَقْوَامٍ يَتَنَزَّهُونَ عَنِ الشَّيْءِ أَصْنَعُهُ؟ فَوَاللَّهِ إِنِّي لَأَعْلَمُهُمْ بِاللَّهِ، وَأَشَدُّهُمْ لَهُ خَشْيَةً.“
It is narrated from Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) did something and also permitted the people to do it, but some people refrained from it. When the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came to know of this, he delivered a sermon and after praising Allah, he said: "What is the matter with those people who refrain from doing something that I have done? By Allah! I have more knowledge of Allah than they do, and I fear Allah more than they do."
Hadith 437
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ سَلْمٍ الْعَلَوِيِّ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ: كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَلَّ مَا يُوَاجِهُ الرَّجُلَ بِشَيْءٍ يَكْرَهُهُ، فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْهِ يَوْمًا رَجُلٌ، وَعَلَيْهِ أَثَرُ صُفْرَةٍ، فَلَمَّا قَامَ قَالَ لأَصْحَابِهِ: ”لَوْ غَيَّرَ، أَوْ نَزَعَ، هَذِهِ الصُّفْرَةَ.“
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would very rarely directly confront someone face to face if he saw them involved in something impermissible. One day, a man came and there were traces of yellow color on him. When he left, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If he would change or remove that yellow (garment), it would be better."
